One of the most important and difficult challenges facing our community today is the high cost of housing. We know we have a shortage of affordable housing. That is why Councilor Cassutt, along with Councilor Villarreal, proposed the 3% tax on million dollar home sales to provide permanent revenue to the Affordable Housing Trust Fund. While it is important to increase the housing stock, Councilor Cassutt believes it must be done in a strategic way. We must build affordable, sustainable, walkable neighborhoods - not just units. So that we can grow, and grow smartly, Councilor Cassutt has been a strong voice and leader in strengthening the City's planning department. She led the charge to update the General Plan and revisit Chapter 14. Initiatives like this Councilor Cassutt hopes will build a greater foundation as we continue to make progress on building a community that meets our values.
